Ascend: Reimagining the Delivery of Math Instruction for High-Need Students in Urban Public Schools

Bonds of Union launched inaugural project area was focused on transforming outcomes for the bottom 20% of achievers in our public schools. Ascend initiative was the outcome of our R&D model for solving the most pressing challenges facing the health of our democratic republic. Ascend represents the transformative power of what is possible when we build teams of talented individuals around a specific, we-defined problem.

Define the Problem

Focusing Bottom 20-25% of Achievers

Before COVID-19 pandemic, we were seeing steady improvement in education outcomes nationally. The challenge has been that these improvements not been amount the roughly bottom 20-25% of achievers in our public school system. This is the lowest achieving, highest need student populations that has been beyond the capacity of large, bureaucratic districts and our most talented, effective teachers to reach systematically.

Learning stations as a new, innovative space designed specifically for 1:1 teaching and learning.

Learning Coach: Introducing a New Category of Professional in the School Building

A key innovation is the development of this new category of professional in the school building that we have called the learning coach.

Reimagining the Design and Architecture of the Traditional Public School

We invision a school experience that is not defined by the traditional classroom experience where students move 20-25 cohorts from one classroom to another throughout the day. We envision a school experience that includes reimagining the traditional design and architecture of the school building itself.
